Byodo-in, Uji

Byodo-in is located in Uji (Kyoto) and is a registered World Heritage Site and a Place of Scenic Beauty. The temple hall provides important historical information about the aristocratic culture in the late Heian period. Its Buddhist statues, paintings and garden are representative of its time. The Jōdo-shiki garden was dredged as part of an archaeological dig in 1997.
